Poems are never finished,
only abandoned like stray
lovers the morning after
you take them in the arms
of your mind, fueling lines
from the fires of your soul,
until you wake only to
see that the faces you’ve
deliriously chiseled onto
canvasses of clouds
are naught but the illusions
uou’ve fed yourself to keep
your bed warm with the
fleeting company of the muses.
If all poets are tormented,
it’s because of the moments
that pass like scenes from
Frank Sinatra’s “Young At
Heart”- with the weeks of
life painted like shadows
under your eyes as you
slouch alongside every
young man with an aging
essence who can’t begin,
nor finish what they press
onto the keys of the pianos
of their craft, stuck forever
with the most glorious
middles of works fit only
for funerals or mockery
by those too scared to
take up the quill and
dab it into their own blood,
while praying for sweet
inspiration from the moths
in the lamp-shades of their
souls.
It isn’t until you’ve wetted
your parched lips from
the well of the world that
the humility of your intentions
takes hold, and the realization
hits that the flickering flame
of your desires doesn’t
hold a candle to the generations
who’ve previously summarized
all that there is in this world,
and the tears flow like stanzas
as you weep for the barren
scepter you seek to hold in
your gripe.

This blog is my public note-book of poetry. It includes the successes, the failures, the frustrations, and in the end, the poems who have evolved to a point where I am comfortable with letting them rest. You may see the same lines or concepts repeated a hundred times before they settle into a poem worthy of them, so please accept this blog for what it is - a poet's rhyme-book, laid for all to see.
